Japan Trip Day 8: Mudana hi (Pictures)

Day 8 was supposed to see me visiting Karatsu castle, Nijinomatsubara, Kagamiyama, all kinds of things. I forgot to factor in that I would be really tired. I seriously almost skipped dinner, just to go pass out. Nevertheless, there are some pictures. I also didn’t take into account the fact that there would be two hotels with the same name in such a small city. Naturally my GPS sent me to the wrong one, which left me hoofing it across town to get to the actual hotel.

The day began with this view of Kyoto station. It's a pretty damned big station. Including the times I arrived and departed, I walked through this place 4 times. Because going through the station was much faster than going around the station.

Riding the Shinkansen towards this might have been the trip that went to Shin-Osaka. Either way this was my view during that trip. I also would like to say that it advertises free wifi, but that free wifi is pretty spotty.

A view of my room in Kuratsu.

And another view of that same room. I hope this gives you some idea of how small the room was.

Takoyaki! Or perhaps you might prefer the term "octopus balls". These are dough with pieces of octopus inside. To my recollection, this was the first time I ever tried octopus. It was incredibly chewy. Not really great, but not awful either. It was a food that existed. This also marked the first time that my Japanese was better than their English. The people who were at the takoyaki place spoke no English, as far as I can tell. Which lead to a rather long comedy of errors in me trying to get takoyaki.

It is worth noting that the ONLY THING this place sold was takoyaki. And they still had trouble with my order. Nearly gave up on this endeavor and went to a nearby sushi place, but I was determined to try takoyaki.

Japanese beverages! The creepy white Fanta. Lifeguard, and Asahi Dry. This particular Asahi was brewed with sakura.
