Third Eye Brewing Company
Honestly, it didn’t take me too long to decide who would be featured first in the “Beer” section of this site. There was another that almost got the top spot, but in the end, Third Eye won out.
Located in Sharonville, Ohio (That’s a little north of Cincinnati proper for those not from the area) sits this wonderful beer oasis. Featuring an ever-evolving menu of brews, it never gets old. Conveniently located across the street from the Sharonville Convention Center, this is a great place to stop off if you are visiting the area for a convention, such as Horrorhound. In fact, the last two years of Horrorhound Third Eye has done a beer specifically for the convention. It is nice to see the brewery working in tandem with the convention to provide a unique offering.
One of the first things I always notice, is the art behind the bar. The psychedelic visuals spills out onto the beer menu, as well as the beer names. Even the cans of the beer have a touch of the psychedelic. With beer names like “Jelly Brain V1”, “Nirvana or Bust” and “Dark Sorcery” it is a blast to see what they will come up with next.
Today, I did my standard of 2 beers and then I cut myself off. I’m pondering in the future doing flights to get a more varied taste of what the breweries have to offer, but for now I’m happy with my two beer method. I do this in part because I feel like a flight doesn’t give you enough time to really taste each beer, and also so I don’t walk out of the brewery shitfaced.
Today’s offerings were “Funky Fresh” and “Thirrd Eye Candy”. These were specifically chosen for the fact that they represent my favorite type of beer, the fruit sour. Yeah, you’ll learn as things go on that I am not a huge fan of IPAs, which is probably not a good thing for someone that wants to write about beer, but I will try them from time to time.
Say hello to Funky Fresh this one hit two of my favorite things in beer:
It was a sour
The flavor just sounded incredibly interesting
This one was listed as a “Curry Banana Guava Sour” . If that doesn’t strike you as an interesting combination, I have to wonder what you are drinking, and if I can have some. The guava and banana I feel came through very well. I did not quite get the curry, but I don’t feel that the beer suffers for it. The one thing that was a little off-putting was the smell. It had a really peculiar smell that I can’t quite place. It made the initial taste of the beer seem weird, but once you get past the smell, the flavor was great. This is definitely one worth trying. On Untappd, I gave this one a 4 out of 5.
Then we come to Third Eye Candy. I’m not going to lie, this beer was the reasons I went to the Third Eye today. It is advertised as a “Raspberry Milkshake Sour”. To say I love raspberry, is a little bit of an understatement, so I think it goes without saying that I was going to come out for a raspberry sour. I am so glad I did. This beer was everything I wanted and more. It was sour, and packed full of raspberries. So, if you like raspberries, and you like sours, get your ass to Third Eye to try this before it is gone. On Untappd, I gave this one a 4.75 out of 5. This was just about perfect. And this is also one of the reasons I have to stop myself at two beers, I could drink this all night.
I’m still working out how I want to talk about beers, so this is me just trying the waters. As I continue writing, I’m sure things will evolve. I hope you come along for the ride.
