A Return to Third Eye
This probably needs to be mentioned. When it comes to breweries, Third Eye and Grainworks are probably the two closest to me. So, I will likely visit them multiple times. With Third Eye’s seemingly endless variety of beers, they will be the subject of many visits.
This most recent trip saw me trying two new variations of preexisting beers. First up on the list, was Unlimited Potential. This is a variation of their award-winning Kolsch named Untapped Potential. Still coming in at a very mild 5% ABV, Unlimited varies from the basic Kolsch with the addition of Key Lime and vanilla. I don’t think anyone knows my obsession with lime beers, but I go out of my way to try them (Mild tangent… Key Punch from Urban Artifact is one of my favorites of the Key Lime variety)
Anyway, Unlimited Potential carries through with the promise of lime and vanilla. Both flavors come in strong with this. It is a rare feat for me to actually taste all the flavors that a beer claims to have. Sometimes, I think it is because the balance of flavor is off, leaving one flavor to overpower the other. Unlimited Potential manages to hit just the right balance. Is it a perfect beer? No. Is it a good beer? Most definitely. If they still have it on tap on my next week off, I may drive on down to pick up another pint, or possibly a six pack. Fruity, refreshing goodness.
Next up we have Funky Diablo V3, which is obviously a variation of Funky Diablo. Funky Diablo was a margarita sour. Funky Diablo V2 was a mango margarita sour. Funky Diablo 3 is a mango habanero margarita sour. This one comes in even more mild than Unlimited Potential with a mere 4.3% ABV
And pardon my language, but god damn was this a good beer. It was fruity, and sour, with just the slightest hint of that habanero heat. I would easily place this as one of my favorite beers of all time. Hands down. Possibly even top 5. If money and sobriety weren’t issues, I could have sat there all day drinking this glorious brew. If I hadn’t closed my tab when I purchased this, I can guarantee I would have been going back for a second. My 2 beer standard be damned! If this is still on tap when I am off next, I will definitely drive back down here for another. I can not accurately express my love of this beer.
Once again, Third Eye has failed to disappoint me. The variety and ever rotating menu makes this a must visit brewery. I’m not kidding. If you like beer, there is something for you to love at Third Eye!
I need to go to a different brewery for my next blog-related outing…
