Urban Artifact: Epicurean Key Lime Pie
Boy, saying that is something of a mouthful… If I’m not careful, they are gonna make that into an anime title. Who am I kidding, it is still like 15 words short of being an anime title. But speaking of mouthfuls, I’m gonna get a mouth full of this beer.
But before I go there, I must ramble. The Epicurean series is, I believe a special release series. Where they get a little more experimental with their flavors. A few years back, they had a Peanut Butter, Banana, and Jelly. Click here if you don’t believe me. I don’t remember much about my study of Epicurus from my college days, he was only a brief lecture in my Intro to Philosophy class… I’m sure Dr. Speliotis would be pissed about that. Anyway, I believe that one of his philosophies boiled down to, and this is not a direct quote, “Food is good.” I mention this since Epicurus is the root of Epicurean, and I believe the concept of “Food is good” is at the root of the Epicurean line.
As a limited release I was afraid I would miss this gem, but was lucky enough to find some at the local non-sketchy liquor store! This was an easy choice to make. I like just about everything I’ve tried from Urban Artifact, so I left with a nice little 4 pack I would have bought more, but the rest of my money was budgeted for vodka. Man does not live on beer alone… sometimes you need vodka! (For the curious I picked up a bottle of Haku.)
So once again, I am at my desk staring at beer. Because I drink while I’m on my computer looking down at my Final Fantasy 6 desk mat/ mouse pad. Honestly, there is a lot of fun stuff to look at here. Look at the main blog for some of that. As you can see in the image above, or if you can’t see the image above here is the takeaway. Key Lime Pie is a fruit tart brewed with key lime, vanilla bean, cinnamon, and lactose. It comes in at a nice 4.5% ABV.
The beer itself lives up to the “tart” name, gaining that tartness from the limes. I don’t fully get the vanilla or cinnamon flavor in there, but the lime is there, and the lactose adds a sort of…creaminess? Possibly not the best word, but I’m just writing as I drink.
I am using one of my whisky glasses for this, because I love these glasses, and I want to get as much use out of them as I can. And since I am mentioning where I get things these are from Kori Whiskey. The glasses don’t come cheap, but they are beautiful and come in a variety of unique shapes.) I was expecting a slight greenish color, but got a very standard “beer” color. Also, as you might be able to see, it formed a massive head in the cup… I don’t know if that is the cup’s fault, my fault, or the beer’s fault.
What I do know about this beer is… it is great. It is everything I could have wanted in a Keylime beer, it’s sour, it’s a little sweet, it is damn near perfection. If it is any indication of how much I like this beer, I started writing this while working on my second can, and am currently drinking the third can. …also it is 9:30 AM, and I haven’t slept in roughly 24 hours. I advise anyone that likes sours to try and get their hands on this. It is purchasable on their website and ships to 9 states and Washington DC.
Now if you’ll excuse me… there is a 4th can that is looking really lonely.
